Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing

Focus: Imaginative texts, description, narrative writing
Students will learn how to:

  • Understand and analyse fiction extracts
  • Explore how writers create atmosphere, tension, and emotion
  • Develop their own descriptive and narrative writing style
  • Use vocabulary, structure and language techniques with purpose

This paper is perfect for building creative confidence and learning how to write with flair.

Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives

Focus: Non‑fiction texts, persuasive writing, real‑world communication
Students will learn how to:

  • Compare writers’ ideas and viewpoints
  • Understand a wide range of non‑fiction sources
  • Write effective arguments, letters, speeches and articles
  • Communicate clearly, persuasively and with a strong personal voice

This paper strengthens essential skills for everyday life and future careers.

Speaking & Listening Endorsement (Optional but Highly Valuable)

Students take part in a short presentation to help build:

  • Confidence in public speaking
  • Clear expression of ideas
  • Effective communication—vital for interviews, apprenticeships and workplaces

This component does not affect the overall grade but greatly enhances communication skills.
